Job Summary: This position is located at the New York Animal Import Center, Newburgh, New York. This is a USDA owned and operated Livestock Quarantine facility which facilitates the importation of livestock, poultry, exotic birds, and zoo animals into the United States through the Port of New York. The Center is the principle facility in the U.S. for examining, testing and isolating imported animals to assure they are free of disease and parasites harmful to American livestock and poultry.
Work schedule: 8:00 am-4:30 pm, works every weekend, (Saturday and Sunday) with 2 days off during week. Lots of overtime and holiday pay.
Serve as an animal caretaker responsible for the feeding, care, and general husbandry relating to a variety of animal species.

Qualifications: To qualify, you must show you have had training and experience of sufficient scope and quality to provide you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Duties: Provide assistance in the unloading and release of animals from quarantine.
Assist in the restraint of animals for processing.
Feed animals in accordance with specific instructions or special diets.
Clean barns, pens, stalls, and cages; contain and dispose of waste materials in accordance with biosecurity procedures.
Keep records concerning animals in quarantine.
Observe animals and report all abnormal conditions or signs indicating disease and observe enclosure or habitat for altered states of repair.
Adhere to biosecurity measures such as changing outer garments between areas, maintaining/using correct disinfectant solutions in foot dip buckets, and applying pesticides and disinfectants.
Assist in the performance of support activities necessary to the effective operation and maintenance of the quarantine station. This may include operating forklifts, tractors, or other motor vehicles; mechanical repairs to various equipment and maintenance duties such as carpentry, painting, lawn care, etc.
