Job Summary: Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management & Student Affairs, the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management (AVPEM) establishes university priorities for enrollment management and collaborates with campus partners to develop appropriate plans for marketing, recruitment, and retention in line with these priorities. The AVPEM provides leadership and supervision to the offices of Financial Aid, Registrar, and Admissions, including new student orientation. The AVPEM manages an operating budget of nearly $4 million and a staff of 43 FTE. Oversight of student records and the compilation of statistical records related to enrollment, graduation, admissions, registration, and other pertinent student data are included in the portfolio. In addition, the AVPEM conducts strategic planning and presents reports to university constituents and to the California State University Chancellor's Office. The AVPEM directs a student centered customer service approach for the delivery of services.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have 7-10 years of experience in a senior management position or a professional administrative position with increasing responsibilities in recruitment, retention, admissions, records, and/or financial aid. A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required; a master's degree is preferred. Knowledge of current national enrollment practices and issues is essential. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability in long range enrollment management planning, predictive modeling, marketing, and reporting statistical data. Knowledge of comprehensive student data bases and information systems is needed, as is knowledge of federal, state, and institutional student financial aid programs and regulations. The successful candidate must have outstanding leadership and team building skills along with strong budget management, personnel management, and supervisory skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills are mandatory as is the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and students. Experience attracting and working with diverse student and staff populations is required. Experience in public, four year, baccalaureate granting institutions is required along with knowledge of national and state projections relevant to outreach and recruitment. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of financial aid leveraging in recruitment and retention is essential as is the ability to manage and supervise the utilization of technology as related to recruitment, financial aid awarding, and the maintenance of student records.
Duties: The AVPEM coordinates the University's approach to outreach and recruitment as specified in the Enrollment Management Plan. The AVPEM serves as a key member of the University's Enrollment Management Work Group, and works closely with the Provost and the Academic Deans in a wide variety of matters. In addition, s/he provides leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of recruitment, publications, training, orientation, and advising as related to the outreach and recruitment process. The AVPEM provides direction,evaluation, and strategic vision to the Financial Aid Office, which is responsible for awarding more than $74 million in aid annually. S/he also provides leadership, evaluation, and strategic vision regarding student academic records, registration, class scheduling, classroom space assignment, student enrollment certifications, grade collection and posting, transcripts, transfer articulation, degree audits, graduation, commencement lists, athletic certifications, credential recommendations, and academic data security.
