Job Summary: Relocation expenses will not be paid. This position serves the Plant Protection Quarantine (PPQ), Center for Plant Health Science and Technology (CPHST) laboratory. CPHST conducts complex analytical studies and methods development to identify basic information and scientific needs for PPQ program decision-making.

Qualifications: Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR

Combination of Education and Experience – courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Duties: The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity. The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Safeguards agricultural resources by developing taxonomic keys, including capturing photos and computer images of federal noxious weeds and other pests using macroscopic and microscopic techniques.
Manages planning, development, implementation, and administration of data within LucID keys as well as for the acquisition, storage, and retrieval of this data by end users.
Using information technologies, develops LucID electronic taxonomic keys for plant seeds and other propagules and attaches various media (digital photographs, text, graphics, etc.) to them.
Uses, and modifies as instructed, websites for key distribution and provides a clear protocol for subsequent database and key updates.
Advises on the technical planning, design, development, testing, implementation, and management of internet and intranet activities, including systems/applications development and technical management of websites pertaining to LucID keys.
Improves and ensures compatibility of new graphic materials produced and facilitates future updates and maintenance.
Organizes existing digital images and reference collection databases.
