Job Summary: To service automobiles, trucks, light and heavy equipment and attachments.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
A. High school diploma or the equivalent; and
B. Two years work experience in an automobile garage or service station servicing automobiles/vehicles; or
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of and able to maintain complete and accurate records; to operate all tools and equipment required by the job.
Considerable skill in effective communication and interpersonal relations both orally and in writing.
Ability to work under general supervision.
Special Qualifications
Must pass a drug and alcohol screening prior to employment and periodically thereafter.
Must obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) with P endorsement and obtain a City of Santa Fe driving permit within 6 (six) months. Use of Pneumatic and electric powered tools, tire replacement machines, tire balancers, lubrication machines, high pressure washers, tire field service truck, two-way radio, multi-line telephone, various writing instruments and manuals.
Work Environment
Work is generally performed in an automotive/vehicle shop setting; may work outside under varying weather conditions. May be subject to loud noises, fumes, cuts and bruises and strenuous physical effort. Position involves standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, climbing and handling. Ability to speak and hear and have good visual acuity including color, peripheral, distances and close vision. Ability to lift and/or move 75 pounds. Night, weekend and irregular work hours may be required.
Duties: Cleans motor vehicles and equipment with water or steam.
Dispenses oil, chemicals, water and air as required to service automobiles, buses, trucks, tractors and other equipment.
Assists mechanics with fan belts, light and signal systems.
Greases all lubricating systems on vehicles; changes oil and oil filters; tests and adds water to batteries; makes adjustments to windshield wipers, mud guards; changes and repairs tires; cleans or replaces spark plugs.
Assists mechanics in making repairs; replaces hydraulic fluid; tows stalled vehicles; maintains records of service and repairs and date of vehicle maintenance.
Keeps garage and service area in a clean and orderly condition.
And other duties as may be required.
