Job Summary: Responsible for overall development and implementation of the organization’s Program for Diversity and Inclusiveness. Implement and coordinate programs, trainings, and other methods to increase the organization’s ability to provide culturally-competent and proficient services to the diverse group of consumers served by MHCD.
Qualifications: Education
Master level degree or higher in one of the following preferred fields
Diversity, Social Work, Mental Health, Human Resources, Human Services or similar fields of study.
Experience
Minimum 3 or more years in a managerial, coordinator, or similar role of responsibility. Combination of clinical training and experience with working knowledge in the diversity/cultural competency field. Experience in instructing adult learners.
Skills
Excellent communication skills verbal and written, demonstrated ability to work with a diverse staff from all walks of life. Ability to work effectively with community organizations, government agencies, foundations, non-profits, and other community partners.
Supervisory
None. Collaborates with the Faith and Spiritual Wellness Coordinator.
Physical Demands
Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 40 pounds. Requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax/e-fax machines, calculators, phones, and other office and/or clerical equipment.
Duties: Responsible for the development and implementation of a staff development and training program enhancing the organization’s capacity to deliver culturally proficient clinical services.
Develop programs, forums, and start dialogues, creating ways to engage employees with diversity-related issues.
Establish effective working relationships with local academic institutions for the purpose of enhancing the workforce through innovative and jointly developed training opportunities. Directly train, facilitate, and secure other trainers for staff regarding diversity, inclusiveness and cultural competency issues.
Establish and maintain relationships with local organizations to strengthen MHCD’s relationships, support, and collaboration within the community. Serve as a liaison to and help build stronger ties to minority supports, chambers of commerce, and similar community resources.
Responsible for management of designated programs servicing special populations. Participate in the development of evaluation and treatment outcome measures in respect to culturally competent services.
Help staff understand, discuss, and problem solve around race and racism issues as well as issues of "lived experience" with consumers and co-workers.
Promote inclusive excellence in all organizational programs.
Assist with program development and grant writing to secure funding for organizational programs with strong diversity components - serving those in lower socioeconomic, refugee/immigrant, and other underserved or at-risk populations.
Assist Human Resources and other managers with inclusiveness in recruiting, marketing to, and retention of minority staff.
Provide consultation to all directors and managers as diversity and cultural competency issues arise.
Collaborate and strategize closely with the Faith and Spiritual Wellness Coordinator.
Facilitate support and resources for non-English speaking and mental health consumers with disabling conditions.
Along with Human Resources, investigate accusations of staff misconduct relating to discriminatory, harassing, or otherwise inappropriate behaviors toward other staff or consumers.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Work within an office environment. Occasional travel. Vehicle and valid driver’s license required. May require some evening and weekend hours.
