Job Summary: This position is with the Statistics Section in the Center for Veterinary Biologics (CVB) in Ames, Iowa. The Statistics Section provides statistical services to CVB and the National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Veterinary Services (VS) on issues related to veterinary biological products and animal disease diagnostics. The incumbent participates as a member of a team of technical staff involved with the statistical design and analysis of studies of veterinary biologics and diagnostics. In this capacity, performs a full range of assignments and resolves unexpected problems

Qualifications: Basic Requirement
Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.
Combination of education and experience - at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Duties: Serves as a data handling interface between licensed manufacturers and CVB. Works with industry to provide technical advice and guidance for data submission formats. Evaluates submitted data for errors and possible fraud. Explores data for validity and characteristics related to study design.
Works independently to evaluate data submitted to CVB. Prepares and processes data, and imports data into statistical software. Provides tabular and graphical summaries of data. Provides written assessments of the data in the context of study reports, outlines of production, and other documents. Develops a variety of custom summaries, graphics, and analyses as requested.
Performs statistical analyses of data from various types of studies. Conducts statistical analysis of standard study types independently and works with senior statisticians on more complex study designs or unusual situations.
Works with statistical programmer to help develop software tools for submitting, processing and analyzing data. Assists statistical programmer in software support.
Develops and prepares a variety of written reports that require intermediate types of computations and compilations. Reports at this level require detailed scrutiny of the study design and methods used to collect the data and the characteristics of the subject matter area. Recognizes disparity between reports and explains circumstances which are not evident in the data.
