Job Summary: Relocation expenses will not be paid. This is a temporary Pathways Internship Program appointment not-to-exceed one year. This Student Trainee position is located at the Center for Veterinary Biologics at 1920 Dayton Ave, Ames, IA. This position is located in Veterinary Services. Applicants must be available to work a regular schedule when classes are in session as well as during scheduled breaks.



As the Student Trainee (Computer Clerk) you will be assisting to provide enterprise information system and managed service support to ensure the availability and security of systems, networks, and data for the USDA in Ames, Iowa. You will assist in providing oversight, advice, support, operations, and services support of all video, voice, and data telecommunications. You will work independently or as a member of a team, in the administration and development of a variety of information management operations and programs. You will assist in resolving service, customer issues, and events. You will develop, update, and maintain software, documentation, and training as required.

The Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed. Students who successfully complete the program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent job in the civil service.

Qualifications: Successful completion of two years beyond the high school level.
Examples of desired experience include, but are not limited to:
Experience roviding technical support and maintenance for hardware and software utilized by office personnel or scientific laboratory staff or academic staff.
Experience with basic level skill utilizing a personal computer and the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
Experience with entry level work diagnosing system problems and replacing /repairing components
Experience with entry level work managing Macintosh computers and peripherals.
Experience following verbal and written procedures to resolve routine hardware and software issues.
Maintain a current license, issued by a state Department of Transportation (DOT) to operate a motor vehicle (a car).

Duties: Assists with the installation and maintenance of operating systems hardware, systems software, communications software, and utilities.
Provides instruction to staff personnel in the operation and use of automation systems and related software.
Inputs data into microcomputer/word processing equipment into programs specifically designed for the unit.
Prints and reviews completed jobs from computer.
Checks output for correct format and printing alignment on data programs specifically designed for the unit.
Responsible for recording, tracking, and updating inventory of computer equipment.
Assists with the development of program graphs and charts using appropriate software.
Performs other general clerical duties as assigned.
