Job Summary: Responsible for administrative duties in direct assistance to the Benefits Division. Work involves considerable public contact and exercise of independent discretion.
Qualifications: Education
Minimum of a high school diploma or G. E. D certification required.
Experience
Minimum one-year (1) experience in the health care/insurance industry is preferred. One-year clerical and office experience.
Certification
Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Knowledge and skilled in the operation of a PC and the current software is required. Knowledge of telephone etiquette is required. Knowledge of CPT and ICD coding is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external contacts. Ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to follow detailed instruction. Ability to organize, prioritize, accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with City officials, employees, and the public and to communicate courteously, tactfully, and effectively. Ability to coordinate a number of ongoing projects at the same time.
Duties: Verifies benefits coverage, eligibility of members and/or dependents, and claims status.
Processes mail as needed; sorts, dates and alphabetizes mail.
Performs data entry to update system.
Performs clerical duties related to the operation of Benefits.
Sorts and mails checks, and explanation of benefits
Uses GBAS system to inquire and maintain enrollment information
Maintains processed files and general filing
Assists claims processor in contacting employees, insurers, physicians, hospitals and other health care providers to obtain claims information or to resolve claims problems.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Must successfully complete the following before your application can be considered for an interview
Typing test with score of 45 wpm with 7 or less errors.
Ten key test with a score of 70% or better.
It is the responsibility of the applicant to take and pass the required typing test by the posting deadline, all applicants who fail to do so will not be considered.
Skills Test is administered by the Texas Workforce Network, 2626 JBS Parkway or test can be taken in the Human Resources Department at City Hall 411 W 8th Street. Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 p.m.
