Job Summary: Jemez MOuntain Public School is searching for a qualified Special Education Teacher.
Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Education, Math, Science, English, Communications or related followed by five years of progressive experience as a preschool, elementary, secondary or college teacher. Eligibility for State of New Mexico special education teaching license is also required.
Duties: Senior level position responsible for teaching special education students with learning and mild disabilities at the elementary school level, using various teaching methods, such as lectures and demonstrations, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations. Write Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and organize and conduct IEP meetings. Prepare progress reports for parents addressing student progress towards annual goals. Responsible for preparing course objectives and the outline for the course of study following curriculum guidelines and the requirements of the state and the school; assigning lessons and correcting homework; administering tests to evaluate pupil progress, recording the results and issuing reports to inform parents of their son or daughter’s progress; keeping attendance records; maintaining discipline in the classroom; meeting with parents to discuss their student’s progress and problems; participating in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops; and performing related duties such as sponsoring one or more activities of student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting courses of study, and counseling students with adjustment and academic problems.
