Job Summary: This position serves the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Wildlife Services (WS) Program. The assignment involves managing damage caused by wildlife, when it creates risks to human health and safety, causes property damage, or threatens natural resources. The work is primarily concerned with WS operations relating to the cessation, alleviation, or mitigation of problems created particularly by waterfowl, such as Canada geese and mute swans, other types of birds, and mammals in urban or suburban environments.

Qualifications: Using damage control techniques (including, but not limited to) predator, rodent, and bird control toxicants, techniques, traps, snares, and formulating scents and baits
Preparing reports regarding activities, observations, events, and other relevant data collected
Providing training on wildlife damage control methods, procedures, technical aspects, and objectives
Inspecting and surveying areas with the ability to recognize various wildlife
Meeting and communicating with individuals or groups
Recognizing habits, characteristics, and habitats occupied by a variety of avian and mammalian wildlife species

Duties: Provides operations to higher-level staff and assists in organizing, conducting, and implementing direct management operations with a large geographical area assigned by the supervisor to manage damage caused by avian or mammalian species.
Inspects and surveys areas and, as necessary, prepares or revises sampling procedures for existing programs.
Prepares and assists others in preparing and submitting routine and special reports regarding daily, weekly, or monthly activities, observations, events, and other relevant data.
Meets with private landowners, lessees, citizen groups or associations which seek damage management assistance and participates in negotiating local cooperative agreements.•As directed, serves as an instructor and conducts demonstrations and training for cooperators and other interested groups on damage management methods, procedures, and program objectives, including preliminary instructions and training of new personnel on technician duties.
Reports accomplishments, problems encountered, work locations, etc. to supervisor.
