Job Summary: Relocation expenses will not be paid. This position is located in Biotechnology Regulatory Services’ Program. The program duration is one year and upon successful completion of program requirements, the incumbent may be converted to a term, career, or career conditional position.
If selected for this position, you will serve with the Environmental Risk Analysis Program (ERAP) staff, Biotechnology Regulatory Services’ (BRS). The ERAP staff provides technical and analytical reviews, pest risk assessments, and environmental assessments of requests submitted to APHIS for the movement, release, and deregulation of genetically engineered organisms.
Qualifications: Completed all requirements for an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two (2)years; OR
ompleted all requirements for an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution on or after December 27, 2010, and before July 10, 2012 (eligibility under this provision expires July 10, 2014); OR
Individuals who, due to military service obligation, were precluded from applying to the Recent Graduates Program during any portion of the 2-year eligibility period described above shall have a full 2-year period of eligibility upon release or discharge from active duty. This eligibility period cannot extend more than 6 years from the date on which the requirements for the academic course of study were met.
Duties: Performs a wide variety of analytical, research, reporting and writing assignments pertaining to the scientific components of APHIS’ environmental analysis and documentation, including preparing environmental impact statements and environmental assessments.
Develops briefing papers, summaries, and correspondence on matters related to environmental documents, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other environmental statutes.
Establishes and maintains contracts and cooperative working relationships with individuals and organizations having common interests in projects and studies under BRS’ review.
Participates and assists in the development of policy, procedural, statutory, regulatory, and administrative matters relating to NEPA environmental compliance.
Responsible for the coordination of training, guidance, and review efforts necessary for satisfactory compliance with environmental laws in accordance with APHIS regulations and with APHIS and BRS’ NEPA policy and established guidance.
