Job Summary: This Position conducts tax account audits of small to moderate sized businesses or individual tax payers, independently or as a member of an audit team. This position examines and tests ledgers, journals and other source documents to determine compliance with federal and state laws, statutes, rulings, and regulations, and generally accepted accounting and auditing standards; determines and applies appropriate sampling plan as applicable; and prepares audit reports to include narratives and schedules. In addition, this position provides guidance, direction and interpretation of statutes, regulations, and department policy to taxpayers. This position focuses primarily on gross receipts, compensating and withholding taxes.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Taxation to include twelve (12) semester hours of accounting or auditing (three (3) semester hours in finance or business law may substitute for up to three (3) semester hours of accounting or auditing). Four (4) years of experience in Auditing, Accounting, Taxation, Collections, or Finance may substitute for the required Bachelor’s degree.
Must be current with all tax reporting/payment. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License and a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico; or must obtain Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of hire as a condition of continued employment. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions:
Continuous sitting required. Frequent walking and standing required. Frequent bending or twisting at the neck. Occasional but essential bending or twisting at the trunk. Occasional but essential squatting/stooping/kneeling and reaching above the head. Continuous reaching forward and repeating the same hand arm or finger motion. Frequent driving with occasional stopping and observation of individuals and objects. Frequent hand/grip strength and non-stop typing required. Occasional but essential lifting of between 10-50 pounds Ability to drive a motor vehicle. Continuous indoor work required. Frequent outdoor work required and exposure to sunlight. Continuous close exposure to VDT, CRTs, or UV rays. Occasional but essential working in loud noise areas. Required to frequently meet deadlines with severe time constraints. Continuous interacting with the public required. Frequent working irregular or extended work hours. Frequent multiple demands from several people. Continuous work with calculator, personal computer, on-line terminal. Frequent use of computer, duplicating equipment, facsimile machine. Travel both instate and out of state 20%. Conditions at the worksite, including lifting, travel, shift requirements, overtime, stress, etc.
