Job Summary: Supervises a survey crew in land, boundary, and construction surveying, determining exact locations, measurements, elevations, lines and topography for Public Works projects.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience: High school diploma or G.E.D. certification required. Completion of college courses in surveying with three (3) years experience in surveying or four (4) years experience as a survey instrument operator with understanding of higher mathematics.
Certification: Valid Texas Driver License.
Duties: 1. Organizes, schedules, inspects tasks assigned to Survey Instrument Technicians under his/her supervision.
2. Gathers and evaluates information from notes, plans, deeds, maps and other records needed to conduct surveys.
3. Determines and records data needed to prepare designs, maps, right of ways, and easements.
4. Reviews and interpret plans to establish control points, lines, and elevations required for the construction of public works projects such as streets, alleys, water and sewer lines, drainage channels, storm sewers, detention basins, locations for landfills and water towers.
5. Proposes minor field revisions of grades and alignments to the Engineer when circumstances dictate changes from original plans, including implementing approved revisions in the field.
5. Provides assistance in the control of critical elevations and alignment and grades on construction projects.
6. Provides information and controls for determining locations and depths of service lines, cables, and conduits for construction projects.
7. Trains survey crew in principles of surveying; maintains effective working relationship with survey crew and personnel in other departments.
8. Installs and retrieves data from office computer to data collector; this data is field surveying information necessary to produce drawings, plans, sketch, etc.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
