Job Summary: The position has broad functional and supervisory responsibilities for college accounting activities including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cashiering, fixed assets, budget monitoring and accurate operation of the agency’s integrated and automated financial management system. Additional responsibilities include the development and maintenance of an effective system of internal control and auditing to provide reasonable assurance that required risk assessments and necessary evaluative processes have been performed. This position reports to the Director of Financial Services.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in accounting, business, finance or closely related field from an accredited college or university.
Four (4) years of full-time equivalent experience as an accountant managing the financial resources of a business, governmental division or college/university.
Two (2) years supervisory experience.
Advanced skill and experience in the design and use of spreadsheet applications, such as Excel.
Duties: Supervise full and part-time staff responsible for activities in the following areas: general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cashiering, budgeting and grants/contracts; including scheduling, leave approvals and performance evaluations.
Install and maintain fiscal and accounting system controls to meet standards and requirements of state, federal and other organizations.
Maintain/monitor the accounting and budgeting systems to assist in the control of college spending.
Prepare and/or analyze various reports for management decision-making.
Perform general accounting related functions, including audit preparations, and drafting monthly quarterly and annual financial reports.
Coordinate fiscal year-end close process.
Maintain and account for fixed asset inventory.
Coordinate and communicate fiscal procedures and determine methods of improving procedures and services.
Coordinate and schedule annual College-wide risk assessments and review internal control activities.
Act as College’s liaison to the state’s Budgeting, Accounting and Reporting (BAR) council.
Work to achieve and support goals established by the College.
