Job Summary: Performs civil drafting and engineering support work of average difficulty.
High school diploma or GED certification. Completion of intermediate level mathematics courses. College level drafing courses work is desirable. Two years of experience involving general drafting and computer-aided drafting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid Texas Driver License required. Degree or certification in Computer Aided Drafting is desirable.
Kowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of drafting principles and methods. Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, the public and City personnel. Ability to communicate in Spanish is desirable. Computer skills with knowledge of spreadsheet, database, and engineering software is desirable. Shall be skilled in the use of drafting instruments and related equipment.
Duties: Prepare clear, complete, and accurate working plans and detailed drawings on AutoCAD. Prepare cross-sections, profiles and contours from sketches or survey notes for utilities, paving, and drainage projects.
Compose, calculate, and draw sketches for right of way acquisition using legal descriptions. Use computer software to calculate traverses for proposed annexations and verification of proposed plats.
Review plats, replats, and building permits for availability of water and sewer. Check for prorata owed and easements that might be located on the property.
Assist the Engineering Division Records Liaison in reviewing, organizing, and disposing of Engineering files, updating database records, and keeping up with retention schedules in order to maintain State mandated compliance of records.
Prepare and maintain a wide variety of maps depicting records of public and private facilities and property. Prepare graphs, charts and exhibits for presentations. Mechanically reproduce project drawings and related information.
Answer questions regarding maps, subdivisions, streets, water and sewer locations and related information to the public as well as to other City Departments.
Research city and county records for legal descriptions, property owners, dedicated easements, and other legal documents.
Make on-site observations and write field notes in support of other activities.
Retrieve, add, and maintain information in various computer formats in support of the City’s Geographical Information System (GIS).
Scan As-Built drawings, prints and other data for archiving purposes.
Performs other duties in support of the Engineering Division as assigned.
