Job Summary: Under the strict supervision and direction of the Chief Operator or other licensed operator, operate and maintain the Water Treatment Plant on an assigned shift to produce the proper treatment and delivery of potable water. Keeps shift leader and/or supervisor informed of plant and equipment condition. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications: Education
High school diploma or GED certificate.

Experience in potable water system preferred

Possess valid Texas Driver License. Possess class D water license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality or ability to acquire within time frame prescribed by department license policy. License must be upgraded within departmental license policy.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to read, write, understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform tasks requiring strenuous physical effort. Ability to work under direct supervision. Possess knowledge of plant processes and equipment used in water treatment plants. Thorough knowledge of and ability to follow safety procedures and use of safety equipment, including self contained breathing apparatus and plant security policies.. Ability to deal effectively with coworkers and supervisors.

Duties: Regulate the flow of water throughout the various plant processes and operate and/or monitor offsite facilities such as pump stations and storage reservoirs to deliver water to various destinations.
Make scheduled periodic rounds throughout the plant to collect samples, visually monitor processes and equipment, make necessary process adjustments and gather data.
Monitor chemical inventories and adjust chemical feed rates as necessary.
Routinely run various industry standard analytical tests on gathered samples using meters and laboratory methods to determine process status. Make necessary adjustment to process.
Work with and in proximity to dangerous chemicals such as chlorine.
Monitor plant flow, various process information and offsite facilities data through the plant SCADA system.
Report operational information to supervisors according to prescribed policies and procedures.
Maintain daily logs and reports through entry of data into logbooks and electronic databases.
Assist in the maintenance of plant facilities through washing down, cleaning and grounds maintenance.
Adhere to all safety and security policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
