Job Summary: Bracewell and Guiliani LLP is seeking a full-time, qualified Animal Scientist.
Qualifications: The position requires Master’s degree in Reproductive Biology and 12 months experience as Animal Scientist with bovine reproduction and embryo collection and transfer procedures.
Duties: In charge of day to day activities in the management and oversight of the Embryo Transfer practice. This will include feeding, oversight of cows and assisting in the flushing of embryos.
In charge of determining appropriate synchronization protocols for bringing cows in to heat and implementing this protocol to the cows. Research and perform analysis of synchronization techniques and present information regarding best practices to the veterinarian in charge.
Perform artificial breeding to cows that have been synchronized to maximize the quality and quantity of viable embryo’s resulting in cross breeding of animals that exhibit improved desirable characteristics.
Assist in studying body weight, activities records, nutritional requirements, and will consider available feed to determine feed rations.
Assist in diagnosing and treating herds with health or production requirements; such as artificial insemination breeding; ultrasonography of ovaries, and reproductive tracks to determine stages of ovarian development and to determine pregnancy.
Assist in the inspection of livestock for presence of diseases, and for recommending standard clinical tests and submission of specimens for laboratory analysis.
Plan and carry out breeding studies to develop and improve outcomes.
Apply principles of bacteriology, chemistry, physics, and economics to develop new improved methods in production, preservation and survivability of embryos in Embryo Transfer.
Advise producers about improved products and techniques that could enhance their animal reproduction efforts.
Research and control animal selection and breeding practices to increase reproduction efficiency and improve animal quality.
Develop improved practices in feeding, housing, sanitation, or parasite and disease control of animals and discover their impact on Embryo Transfer recipients.
Prepare specimens and perform laboratory tests directed by veterinary staff.
Managing and feeding of donor cows and recipient cows at the Embryo Transfer Practice.
Evaluate and consider animal's age, temperament, fertility and buyer demand to develop embryo transfer schedules.
Research and summarizes information on specific diseases, treatments, and/or management issues relative to bovine production management.
Communicate research findings to producers, and the veterinarian in charge.
Conduct research concerning animal nutrition, breeding, reproduction or management to improve products or processes that are utilized.
Study nutritional requirements of animals and nutritive values of animal feed materials.
