Job Summary: The mission of the American Heart Association is to build healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Many racial/ethnic communities are disproportionately affected by these diseases and, while these populations are most at risk, they are generally less aware of their risk. Our commitment is to increase health equity among our communities through increased awareness, strategic collaborations and creative programming.

By increasing knowledge and encouraging behavior changes among our communities through consistent effort via community channels and trusted sources, we can improve the cardiovascular health of all.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in health education, community health, health administration or related discipline preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree. Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 years' experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education.
Must have at least 2 years of experience working with community health issues and/or managing community health promotion or related educational programs. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position's educational requirement.
Knowledge and experience in fundraising, a plus.
Successful track record in volunteer recruitment, development and management with an emphasis on community organization and grassroots mobilization.
Demonstrated interpersonal and relationship-building effectiveness in one-on-one and group settings across all levels of corporate and community leaders, volunteers and staff.
Ability to work professionally in corporate and non-profit environments and assume responsibility for guiding educational/marketing projects and programs from inception through completion
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with variable hours including evenings and weekends as needed.
Ability to travel in the communities served - up to 25 percent daily and up to 10 percent overnight.
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, preferred.
Must have the ability to lift at least 20 lbs. from the ground to waist level with or without reasonable accommodation.
Must have at least basic knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office 2007 used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Duties: Developing our Health Equity department in the state of New Mexico with a focus on Albuquerque and surrounding communities.
Developing and implementing new programs to best meet identified needs.
Securing funding so that programs can be successfully sustained.
Securing and cultivating collaborative partnerships with public health organizations and community based organizations to advance mutual objectives.
Developing relationships with local volunteers, community leaders and other stakeholders to provide effective public education and community outreach.
Providing staff leadership to committees with the goal of completing program plans.
