Job Summary: This position will manage the botanical program including the exhibits, facilities and irrigation systems at the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park ensuring Department, Division, and Park goals and objectives as well as Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Accreditation standards and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) requirements and objectives are met. This position will manage the hazardous materials program including pesticide requirements, OSHA guidelines and record keeping and reporting Park Hazardous Materials Program. This position will educate Park visitors regarding the botanical mission of the Park. The position will provide effective team based leadership to the Park staff.
Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in Art History or other area of specialization such as Museum Studies, Museology, Conservation Science, Anthropology, or History; and one (1) year supervised experience working with museum artifacts/collections. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Must possess or obtain a pesticide applicator license in categories 3A, 3B, 6B, and 7A from the New Mexico Department of Agriculture within one (1) year of hire.
