Job Summary: Performs field work of average difficulty. Perform professional code enforcement of the City’s Health and Sanitation Ordinances and various programs and plans.
Graduation from college with an associate degree or two years experience in City code enforcement, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Two years experience in a job requiring extensive public contact.
Valid Texas Driver License. Possess certification as a Code Enforcement Officer through the Texas Department of Health or ability to obtain certification within two years of employment.
Knowledge of health and sanitation and related ordinances and principle and practices of City research methods.
Ability to prepare written reports and maintain records. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments, governmental and private agencies and the general public.
Duties: 1. Function as enforcement officer of the City’s Code of Ordinances related to health and sanitation and carries out duties related to various programs operated by Community Development. Responds to and investigates complaints from citizens concerning violations of the Health and Sanitation ordinance. Composes notices to notify appropriate person(s) of violation(s) and compliance with codes and ordinances.
2. Perform related tasks as instructed by the Director of Community Development or his/her designated representative. Conducts property condition surveys of neighborhoods and commercial districts. Revise or update maps and plans related to area of work.
3. Has extensive contact with the public concerning Health and Sanitation ordinance regulations and various programs operated by Community Development.
4. Represent the City in municipal court concerning violations of the Health and Sanitation ordinance.
5. Other duties as assigned.
