Register for Services


The student must register with the Disability Services Office (DSO) to request services. The student is not eligible for accommodations until he/she has requested services with the DSO and is certified eligible.
If you have a disability and would like to receive accommodations at Eastern New Mexico University, please complete the Application for Services form (LINK), and send it, along with your disability documentation, to the DSO.

Please provide documentation from a licensed professional who has relevant training and experience diagnosing the reported condition. Documentation needs to be on letterhead, typed, dated, and signed. Diagnosis written on prescription pads, handwritten, or stamped with a signature will not be accepted. It is the student's responsibility to provide documentation, per the Documentation Guidelines (link).

Students Without Documentation

Some students contact our office who have not been tested for cognitive disabilities, such as a learning disability, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or a psychological disability, but suspect that they may have one. Eastern New Mexico University does not have the resources to provide the necessary testing. DSO will provide students with a list of appropriate professionals who are qualified to conduct a diagnostic evaluation. Insurance companies sometimes pay for testing, but often they do not. In some cases, local service agencies can provide financial help to students.

Intake interview

A student should make an appointment to meet with the Disability Services Office (DSO) Director as soon as he/she is accepted at the university and has made a decision to attend. For out-of-state students, this meeting should take place as soon as the student is on campus. If interpreter services or special equipment is needed, out-of-state students should notify the DSO immediately upon acceptance. To provide the most efficient services, a two-week notice is beneficial.

Using the documentation, the student and DSO Director will collaboratively determine the most appropriate academic adjustments and review procedures for implementation.
