What are you doing this summer?
Would like to study in a university in the US but you think your English isn't good enough?
Do you need to get a better TOEFL score before you can be admitted to a university?
Would you like to see what it is like to study in the US without committing to a full year of courses?
If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, a summer program at Eastern New Mexico University may be right for you!
ENMU's ESL Institute offers a variety of courses in the summer. Among them are:
- academic courses designed to get you ready to study in English
- TOEFL preparation courses
- courses to help orient you to US culture
We offer face-to-face classes in Portales and online courses for those who are unable to travel to New Mexico.
Summer 2011 Course Offerings
Take an online course to help you improve your English from anywhere in the world.
From your computer, you can take an ESL course just like the ones we offer on our campus in Portales. There will be opportunities to interact with other students from around the world while you improve your English language skills.
Prepare for the TOEFL exam with our intensive TOEFL prep course
Come to Portales and develop your skills in preparation for taking the TOEFL exam. We offer a TOEFL prep class that meets for two weeks, six days a week, 7.5 hours per day. Using the Northstar TOEFL iBT text, you will practice the types of activities you will encounter on the actual TOEFL test.
Get a head start on the fall semester with our Summer ESL Institute
The Summer ESL Institute is designed to help students get a head start on their studies at ENMU. It gives students a chance to brush up on their English skills immediately prior to the regular academic year. It also provides them with orientation to the University and to Portales.
Classes meet five days a week for two hours and fifteen minutes each. Students will work on their academic listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as learn about US culture.
In addition, students spend one hour in the language lab each day.
In addition, we can develop short-term courses to meet the needs of groups of students. For additional information on this or any of the other summer options, please contact the director of the ESL Institute.
