Blackwater Draw Museum

The Blackwater Draw Museum displays artifacts and exhibits associated with the Locality No. 1 site. Over 13,000 years of site usage are described, from mammoth hunting to modern culture.

A souvenir shop offers related books and gifts. Restrooms are available. Picnic and camping facilities are available nearby, and motels and restaurants are available in Portales. The museum is handicapped accessible. There is a "touch and feel" table for children at the museum.

Location

The Blackwater Draw Museum is located at 42987 Highway 70, about 7 miles northeast of Portales and 8 miles south of Clovis, New Mexico. It is adjacent to a large rest stop, and is just south of the Eastern New Mexico University football stadium.

Summer Months (Memorial Day–Labor Day):

  • Monday–Saturday: 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
  • Sunday: noon–5 p.m.

Remainder of the Year:

  • Tuesday–Saturday: 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
  • Sunday: noon–5 p.m.

The museum may be closed during major holidays.

Children 6–15: $1
Children 5 and under: free

Paying at the site or at the museum will cover your entrance to the other. Please keep your receipt.
The fourth Sunday of each month is a free day with no admission charge.

Fees for civic and educational group tours should be arranged before arrival and will depend on the number of persons in the tour group. Please call for information on special tour arrangements.
