National Juried Exhibition, Runnels Gallery

Axiom of Gesture, September 3 – 29, 2010
 
Exhibition theme
A digital show devoted to the spirit of human movement. Idea submissions will explore the artistic interpretation of human movement and how people move through time and space.
 
Juror of selections and awards
A five member panel from the areas of Animation, Media Arts and Design, Communications, Dance, Digital Cinema Arts, and Graphic Design will jury submissions to the exhibition.

Awards include Best of Show, second, and third places.  Amount of award money is dependent upon the number of entries received.

Eligibility
The show is open to any artist living in the continental United States.  Each artist is limited up to three entries.  The work must be original, digitally conceived and produced, completed within the last five years, and not previously shown at the Eastern New Mexico University’s Runnels Gallery. Creation of work must be predominately digital, however limited incorporation of traditional hand work elements are welcome. Entry deadline is July 30, 2010. Listed below are further explanations per medium:

  • Digital photography:  Submissions selected to be part of the exhibition must be printed and mounted/framed.
  • Film and animation submissions: DVD, NTSC, Region 01 only. Submissions must be a minimum of two minutes and not exceed the maximum length of six minutes.
  • Graphic design:  Submissions selected to be part of the exhibition must be final prints (consumer ready state for distribution, no mockups will be accepted) and framed/mounted if applicable. Submissions can be in the form of posters, brochures, booklets, and package design.
  • Digital illustration and painting: Submissions selected to be part of the exhibition must be digitally produced, printed and framed/mounted.

Framing/mounting requirements: Framed artwork cannot exceed 40” in height and length and must be properly wired for hanging. No saw tooth hangers will be accepted.

3-D size restrictions:  work must not exceed 40” in height and length and 20” in depth.  Work hung on the wall must be property wired, no saw tooth hangers will be accepted.  Free standing work must be stable.

Media restrictions: no work requiring electricity or water can be accepted and no work that requires hanging or suspension from the ceiling.

Complete entries will include

  • Entry Fee: $30.00 (US) non-refundable
    • Make checks payable to: ENMU Runnels Gallery
  • Completed entry form
    • CDs and DVDs will not be returned
  • CD with artist's statement no longer than 100 words
    • Must be saved as a Word file
  • CD (digital photography, graphic design, digital illustration and painting, mixed media pieces)
    • Submissions should adhere to the following guidelines: 
      • Files should be sized to 300 dpi.
      • Files should be saved as .tiff or .pdf
      • Label each file as such:
        • Lastname_Firstname_ 1
        • Lastname_Firstname_ 2
        • Lastname_Firstname_ 3
      • Numbers should match those on entry form.
      • Images should not include any personal information such as name or website. 
      • Label your CD with: name, phone, e-mail, and number of pieces
  • DVD (film and animation pieces, DVD, NTSC, Region 01)
    • One DVD per submission adhering to the following guidelines: 
      • Film and animation pieces should not include any personal information such as name or website. 
      • Label your DVD with: name, phone, e-mail, and title of piece.
      • Title of piece should match that on entry form.

Accepted artist
Artists will be contacted by e-mail.

Artists are responsible for shipping their work in reusable boxes (CDs/DVDs will not be returned).

Accepted work will be exhibited in the Runnels Gallery of Eastern New Mexico University.

Artists are responsible for the shipping and insurance costs for shipping of work to the gallery and return shipping of work back to the artists.

Delivery of accepted works (excluding film and animation pieces)
Artists are responsible for shipping or hand delivering their work by the designated dates and times.

 All shipments must be prepaid or they will not be accepted.

All 2-D work must be properly wired for hanging. No saw tooth hangers will be accepted.

All work must be labeled on back with the artist's name, title of work, medium, and price.

Return of accepted works (excluding film and animation pieces)
Shipping and insurance of returned work is the financial responsibility of the artist.

Artwork will be returned via a prepaid carrier label from United States Postal Service (USPS) or UPS provided by the artist and paid by the artist.

No USPS return metered labels. If shipping USPS use postage stamps for full value. 

All artwork must have appropriate paperwork and shipper bar scans. 

Work for which return shipping is not received by close of exhibition will include a $20.00 per day storage fee. 

All work unclaimed 30 days after the close of the exhibition, will become the property of the Art Department. 

Liability
Eastern New Mexico University will exercise due care in handling all work submitted. ENMU, the Runnels Gallery, the Department of Art or any of their agents will not be responsible for loss or damage to any work, whether such work is on display, in storage, or in transit to or from the artist. All accepted work must remain on display until the close of the exhibition. ENMU assumes the right to photograph any work for catalog or publicity purposes.

A storage fee of $20.00 per day will be charged for any work not picked up by the specified dates.  

The submission of work to this exhibit will be understood to imply agreement and consent on the part of the artist or agent with the conditions set forth in this prospectus.
 
Calendar and deadlines

  • July 30, 2010: All entries must be received (with appropriate entry form, check, CD/DVD, and artist’s statement)
  • August 6, 2010: Artists will be notified by e-mail about acceptance
  • August 20, 2010: All selected works must be received in Runnels Gallery
  • September 3, 2010: Exhibition opens to public with opening reception, 5-7 p.m.
  • September 29, 2010: Exhibition closes
  • September 30, 2010: Work must be picked up, or shipping arrangements finalized
