Improving Completions and Transfer of Minority and Low-Income Students

 

Year 1

  • Develop small group orientation and family support activities
  • Develop programs for loan of computers to low-income students who have no at-home access to technology
  • Develop or revise courses to include culture-specific content
  • Develop an ENMU technology lab for general education
  • Introduce use of consultant role models
  • Collect baseline data

Year 2

  • Pilot, evaluate and modify small group orientation and family support activities
  • Pilot courses developed or revised in Year 1 and develop or revise additional courses to include culture-specific content
  • Pilot ENMU technology lab and develop a similar lab at CCC
  • Develop a community outreach to help K-12 parents support school success at home

Year 3

  • Pilot, evaluate and modify K-12 parent outreach.
  • Pilot all courses developed or modified in Years 1 and 2
  • Develop a technology lab for teacher education and business at ENMU
  • Develop and pilot short-term training in Workplace Spanish and Spanish-language pronunciation
  • Monitor small group orientations, family support and other activities
  • Evaluate

Year 4

  • Provide Workplace Spanish to additional employees
  • Pilot, evaluate, and modify (if indicated) use of the ENMU technology lab for teacher education and business and develop a similar lab at CCC
  • Develop Web access for CCC students to enhance transfer information for ENMU
  • Continue and refine all prior strategies.
  • Collect or update data, evaluate project progress

Year 5

  • Enhance technology labs available to ENMU and CCC for general education and specialized applications to teacher education and business
  • Develop and pilot strategies for increasing contacts at grades eight and nine to encourage college attendance
  • Transition effective procedures to ensure continuation after the project
  • Conduct summative evaluation
