Upward Bound

The primary goal of the Eastern New Mexico University Upward Bound project is to assist students who are first generation college bound from a low income background enroll in and graduate from post-secondary programs of education. The project selects students who have the potential for success in college.

ENMU Upward Bound program includes students from Clovis, Texico, Dora, Floyd, Elida, Melrose and Portales High Schools. The students meet twice a month throughout the school year and attend an intensive six-week on-campus academic program during June and July.

About Upward Bound

The Program serves 60 active participants from Curry, Roosevelt and Lincoln counties during the Academic Year and Summer component.

Summer Program

During the summer, students live in campus residence halls and are immersed in a concentrated, challenging and supportive learning environment. They enroll in college preparatory classes in Mathematics, Literature, Study Skills/Careers, Science, a Foreign Language and other elective courses. Supervised silent study, study labs, field trips and recreational activities are integral parts of the Program. A team of adult college students (resident advisors and tutors) provides twenty-four hour supervision in the residence halls and is available for individual tutoring and advisement.

Academic Year Program

Between September and May, students meet at the college on selected Saturdays. Transportation and breakfast (and sometimes lunch) are provided to participants for Saturday sessions. ENMU UB also provides tutoring, college tours, cultural tours, community speakers and individual academic advisement to our participants.
