The Federal TRIO programs are outreach focused, student service programs designed to provide academic success services to qualified individuals. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist first generation students, from low-income families, as well as individuals with disabilities as they progress from middle school to post-baccalaureate programs. At ENMU we provide three of these programs, two of which are geared toward local high school students.

Student Support Services

Student Support Services is designed to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants and ease the transitions from high school to college and college workforce.

Upward Bound

To qualify for Upward Bound you must be in high school, come from a low-income family with neither parent having completed a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase participants' enrollment and graduation rates from college programs. Students in the Upward Bound program are four times more likely to earn an undergraduate degree than students from similar backgrounds without the benefit of Upward Bound. Currently, 772 programs, serving over 56,000 students, operate throughout the United States.

Educational Talent Search

Educational Talent Search identifies and assists high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to postsecondary school. Talent Search also encourages high school dropouts to re-enter the educational system and complete their education. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in postsecondary education institution of their choice. The 361 Talent Search programs serve over 323,000 students.
