The Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences family and consumer sciences (FCS) concentration has real life components, focusing on skills required for careers that address family and individual needs such as community agencies and social services. In the FCS concentration, you'll take classes from each of the five FCS content areas. Upon completion, you will be equipped with the following knowledge and skills which form the basis of personal fulfillment and employment:
- Nutritional needs at each individual's life stage;
- Choosing clothing for the individual and family members;
- Attractively designing the home interior;
- Family and child welfare; and
- Evaluating consumer goods, services and finances.
Each BAAS degree requires a student to have a primary concentration and a secondary concentration. If your vocational/technical credit takes care of your primary concentration area, and you'll take just eight classes (24 hours) to earn your family and consumer sciences BAAS degree at ENMU.
Do I Qualify for This BAAS Program?
Our Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science Family and Consumer Sciences Concentration will help you use your prior academic experience to complete your bachelor's degree.
You can enter our BAAS Program to earn your bachelor's degree if you are working on your first bachelor's and have at least one of the following:
- Have an Associate of Applied Arts and Sciences (AAS) degree from an institution with accreditation recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)
- Have earned a significant number of credit hours in a career-technical related discipline from an institution with accreditation recognized by the CHEA
Scholarships and Financial Assistance
We are committed to helping you finance your education. In addition to grants, loans and scholarships offered through Financial Aid, the there are more scholarships available for returning ENMU students. Additionally, many ENMU students work part-time jobs on campus to help finance their education.

The applied arts and sciences faculty are committed to responsible academic advising. This means we help you schedule the right courses at the right time to help you take this next step in your professional career. Faculty members are specialists in their areas of advising and are current with requirements for admission into the programs they advise so you get the academic advice you need, when you need it.
Service and Mutual Interest Organizations
ENMU provides students the opportunity to use the skills you'll gain while working on your degree to hold leadership positions in ENMU organizations if you want to get more involved. At ENMU, you will be able to explore more than 50 student organizations that range from academic, cultural, multicultural, service, special interest and fraternities/sororities. If you see a need for an organization we don't have, you can even start your own.

When you receive a BAAS degree with a family and consumer sciences concentration, you can look forward to an enhanced career in your field. This might include new opportunities in management, or even a new career in a related field. BAAS Concentration: Family and Consumer Sciences
The BAAS program requires you to complete 120 hours to earn your bachelor's degree. Within those 120 hours, you must complete a primary concentration and a secondary concentration.
As a secondary concentration, Family and Consumer Sciences requires 25 hours of coursework and includes the following courses.
