Teacher Education Office

The Teacher Education Office (TEO) is responsible for field placements of students enrolled in our Teacher Education Program. The mission of this office is to facilitate placement of teacher candidates in appropriate instructional settings. Additionally, the TEO maintains the processes and records of the Teacher Education Program.

Student Teaching

During your last semester in our program, you gain the professional experience of teaching in a classroom, and you take part in professional development activities. Student teaching is the capstone experience of the Teacher Education Program. During your student teaching semester, you will engage in initial seminar, career fair, and teacher candidate professional development conference. The student teaching process starts with a mandatory application meeting the semester prior to your professional classroom experience.

Admission

Admission to the Teacher Education Program is based on a three-gateway process. This process allows you to enter the program in a sequential manner. Questions can be directed to your advisor or to the TEO.

Teaching in Other States

There are situations where students may earn their teaching degree at ENMU, but wish to teach in another state. If you fall into this category, contact the relevant department of public education for information on licensure requirements for your state. New Mexico offers teachers from out-of-state the ability to earn New Mexico teaching certification based on previous experience, education and certification from other states. This partnership currently exists with 44 states.
