The Master of Education with emphasis in bilingual education is designed for practicing teachers wishing to pursue a master's degree, as well as bilingual endorsement in New Mexico. You must have a teaching license to be eligible for this program. For endorsement in any other state, please consult your credentialing agency for reciprocity.

Eastern New Mexico University has the second lowest bachelor's and master's-level tuition in the state of New Mexico, and has one of the most affordable graduate tuition rates in the United States. If you are an out-of-state student enrolling in 6 or fewer hours per semester, you'll pay tuition and fees at the low in-state rate. Eligible students may apply for the TEACH grant and graduate assistantships are also available through application to the ENMU Graduate School.

Admission Requirements

If you do not satisfy all of the following requirements for admission within your first 12 hours of graduate study at ENMU, you will be reclassified as a non-degree seeking student and you will not be allowed to register for further graduate coursework until all requirements for admission are fulfilled.

  1. Application for Admission. You can apply for free to the ENMU Graduate School online at enmu.edu/ApplyNow.
  2. Undergraduate GPA of 3.00. If your grade point averages between 2.75 and 2.99, you will be considered for "conditional" admission; if accepted, you must earn a minimum GPA of 3.00 with no grade less than a "B" during your first semester or the first 9 hours.
  3. Letter of Application. You must submit a letter of application to the graduate coordinator. The letter should specify your intended area of emphasis and how an advanced degree in education would advance your career.
  4. Proof of Licensure. A photocopy of your teaching license or confirmation of admission into a regular or alternative licensure program must be submitted to the graduate coordinator.

Graduate School Admission Procedures

Bilingual Education Master's Program – Thesis and Non-Thesis Options

This program is designed for practicing teachers wishing to pursue a master's degree, as well as a bilingual endorsement. This degree may be obtained with or without a thesis.

Thesis option: You must complete 9 hours of Curriculum and Instruction Core Requirements, 6 hours of emphasis area coursework, 15 hours of electives and 6 hours of Master's Thesis.

Non-thesis option: You must complete 9 hours of Curriculum and Instruction Core Requirements and 27 hours of emphasis area coursework and comprehensive exams.

Master of Education with Bilingual Education Emphasis (36 hours, Thesis option)
