The study of history helps you better understand the context of the events you see in the news and fosters an enjoyment of our interconnected, globalized world history. Our History Program coursework involves training in the use of historical sources as a means for developing skills in critical analysis, a spirit of inquiry and open-mindedness.

Beyond the importance of knowing our past, a historical approach to problem-solving modern-day events is appreciated in teaching, law, journalism, politics, the ministry, and civil or diplomatic services or business.

In this program, you will choose coursework from U.S., European, and non-Western areas for study. We also offer specialized courses on topics including history as depicted in film and fiction, diplomatic history, and military studies.

If you plan to teach history, we also offer a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies with an emphasis in history with licensure to teach at the secondary (high school) level. If you’re interested in elementary or special education study, you also have the option to add an endorsement social studies through the College of Education and Technology.

Additionally, we have a history minor available.
