ENMU offers academic scholarships that can total more than $33 thousand over four years of attendance for New Mexico first-time freshmen. We also encourage you to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which may be submitted as early as Oct. 1 of the current year for the upcoming school year.

Institutional Scholarships

To qualify for a Freshman Academic Scholarship, you need at least a 3.5 high school grade point average, 20 ACT composite or 1030 SAT total. See the chart below to see what your HS GPA/ACT/SAT score provides under this scholarship program.

Amount: $1,000–$3,000 per academic year (Tuition waivers are awarded separately.)

Application deadline: for priority consideration, apply by Aug. 1 for fall and Jan. 3 for spring. Applications may be considered until two weeks prior to the beginning of the semester. In order for us to be able to process your scholarship application, you should apply for admission first, because you won't be eligible to receive an Admissions Scholarship until you are admitted to ENMU.

Eligibility:
Be an out-of-state high school graduate, out-of-state General Educational Development (GED) recipient, or out-of-state High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) recipient. Be an out-of-state resident and be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, and have at least a 3.0 H.S. GPA, 20 ACT Composite / 1030 SAT Total score or higher

Receipt of scholarships may affect your eligibility for other financial aid. Scholarships are distributed over two semesters, fall and spring.

Continuation:

Your first semester's GPA is based on your first semester at ENMU. Thereafter, your cumulative GPA (all semesters including dual/concurrent enrollment and other schools) will be used to determine your eligibility for continuation.

Renew this scholarship for a total of eight consecutive semesters if you have an High School GPA of 3.5 or higher ACT score of 22 or higher, or SAT of 1100 or higher and:

  • Complete 15 hours each semester with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Renew this scholarship for a total of two semesters (fall and spring of your freshman year) if you have an High School GPA of 3.0-3.49, ACT score of 20-21 or an SAT score of 1030–1090 and:

  • Complete 15 hours each semester with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

You can take 3 of the 15 hours required for continuation from the Roswell or Ruidoso campus with the remaining hours taken from the Portales campus.

Apply for Admissions Scholarships

Amount: up to $500 per academic year (based on your participation with RaiseMe and updating your profile).

Eligibility: be a U.S. citizen who is an out-of-state student who does not live within 135 miles of Portales; you must also have a minimum high school unweighted GPA of 2.7.

Continuation: students must maintain 15 credit hours with a 3.0 GPA. Your first semester's GPA is based on your first semester at ENMU. Thereafter, your cumulative GPA (all semesters including dual/concurrent enrollment and other schools) will be used to determine your eligibility for continuation.

Application Deadline: you must complete your profile on RaiseMe by March 1 of your senior year and be admitted by June 1 in order to receive your micro-scholarships.

Amount: $1500 per semester

Students with ACT Composite scores of 20 and above (ACT Composite comes from the following sections: English | Reading | Science | Mathematics), SAT Total scores of 1030 and above (SAT Total comes from the following sections: Evidence-Based Reading/Writing | Mathematics) or high school grade point averages of 3.0 and above may renew for a total of four consecutive semesters if the following requirements are met: Live in University-managed housing, complete 12 hours in the fall and spring semesters with a minimum 3.0 GPA and 20 hours of University-related community service/projects per semester. The first semester's GPA is based on your first semester at ENMU. Thereafter, your cumulative GPA (all semesters including dual/concurrent enrollment and other schools) will be used to determine scholarship continuation.

University-managed housing is Curry Hall, Eddy Hall, and Guadalupe Hall.

We want scholarship recipients to be involved in campus life. To complete the community service requirements, you can join an organization, attend Associated Students Activities Board (ASAB), athletic, and/or fine arts events to get your 20 hours. The Housing Department tracks the required community service hours..

Eligibility: be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and have ACT scores of 20 and above, SAT scores of 1030 and above or high school grade point averages of 3.0. The first semester's GPA is based on your first semester at ENMU.

Contiunuation: may renew for a total of four consecutive semesters if the following requirements are met: Live in University-managed housing, complete 12 hours in the fall and spring semesters with a minimum 3.0 GPA and 20 hours of University-related community service/projects per semester.

Out-of-State Tuition Waivers

Amount: waives the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition.

Requirements: Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident. Have a 3.5 cumulative high school GPA and a 20 ACT Composite / SAT Total of 1030 or higher OR 3.0 cumulative high school GPA paired with a 23 ACT Composite / SAT Total of 1130.

Continuation: if you complete at least 12 hours with a minimum 2.5 GPA each semester, you are eligible to receive this scholarship for a total of eight semesters.

Scholarship review is started each year on the first weekday in July for fall and spring. Applications are date stamped when received and reviewed in date order. In order for us to be able to consider your scholarship application, you should apply for admission first, because you won't be reviewed to receive an Admissions Scholarship until you are admitted to ENMU. You must reapply for this tuition waiver every year.

Listed below are the priorities in which the applications will be reviewed:

  • Priority I: Returning ENMU student on the waiver with a cumulative ENMU GPA of 2.5 and successfully completed 12 credit hours the previous semester
  • Priority II: New transfer students from an Arizona college with a minimum 2.5 transfer cumulative GPA
  • Priority III: First-Time Freshman: Have a 2.5 cumulative high school GPA and a 20 ACT Composite / SAT Total of 1030 or higher

  • Priority IV: Returning ENMU with a GPA greater than 2.0

Eligibility: be an Arizona resident and a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident meeting one of the above priorities.

Continuation: with yearly application, may be awarded for up to four consecutive semesters or receipt of degree (whichever comes first) if you complete at least 12 hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

The Western Undergraduate Exchange program is designed to allow students from selected states to attend ENMU at a reduced out-of-state tuition rate. To qualify for the WUE, you must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and a resident of one of the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Guam and the US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Application deadline: there is no application required for this waiver, it will be automatically applied to your account if you meet the eligibility requirements.

Donor Scholarships

The ENMU Foundation offers a variety of scholarships for students of every level (incoming freshman, current/transfer students, and graduate students). Applications are accepted most years Jan. 1 to Feb. 15 of each year for the following academic year scholarships.

Continuation Criteria

Some scholarships, like the Freshman Academic Scholarship will continue to award you money for a number of semesters as long as you maintain a certain GPA while taking a certain number of courses. The GPA and course load requirements are referred to as "Continuation Criteria" and are shown for each scholarship.
