ENMU's Student Government Association (SGA) provides students a voice in University governance and helps to enhance the overall student experience. Student government is comprised of three branches: the executive branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch.

The executive branch is led by the student body president and is comprised of other executive officials and directors. The legislative branch is led by the student body vice president (president of student senate) and comprises the legislative cabinet and student senate. The judicial branch is led by the chief justice and comprises other justices and support staff.

Tamia Smith
Student Body President

It is a pleasure and privilege to serve the student body of Eastern New Mexico University as the student body president. I want to say thank you to the student body for trusting me to continue to serve as your President for a second term. I recently graduated with a bachelor's in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. In the fall, I will start graduate school through the Counseling Program. I am originally from Arlington, Texas, and I graduated from Mansfield Summit High School. I was actively involved in powerlifting, track and field, and cheerleading in high school. I am the 2019 powerlifting championship in the state of Texas for 6A athletics.

I am currently a student-athlete at ENMU, and I compete in track and field. Recently, in 2023, I competed in an indoor Lone Star Conference Championship, and I won the shot-put competition with a throw of 13.69 meters. I then competed in a full outdoor season, and at Conference, I placed second in the shot put throwing a personal best of 13.71 meters. I also placed fourth place in the outdoor Conference Hammer Throw with a throw of 46.85 meters. I have been competing on this team since 2019 and currently hold the top five best throws in shot put at Eastern.

I have served the ENMU student body as a senator, chief of staff, vice president, and president. This will be my second term serving as President. I have served on the ENMU Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) and have participated in and chaired the Student Fees Board. I was a member of the Presidential/Chancellor committee as well. I have also been involved in various University committees that are actively involved in governance. My goal after completing college is to become a law enforcement officer, eventually specializing in behavior analysis.

I am honored and very excited to serve you as the student body president, facilitating a wonderful and healthy time here at ENMU. I strongly encourage and welcome all students at Eastern to come to me with any questions, comments, and/or concerns. I can be contacted at any time at [email protected].

Micaela Vigil
Student Body Vice President

It is an honor and a privilege to serve as Vice President of the 57th Student Government Association. Being able to work for these students to try and provide the best experience they can have here at Eastern New Mexico University is such an exciting thing to not only be a part of but also lead.

Being a theatre major here at ENMU has been so helpful in developing my theatre knowledge, but also in being a leader. Theatre became a passion of mine in high school, and now I have decided to make it my career. The most important part I have learned from acting and theatre in general is the connection of people. I am part of Chi Omega Women’s Fraternity and the Podcast Club. In Chi Omega, I have held numerous positions and currently hold the position of Treasurer. In Podcast Club, I am currently on my second term as President. Eastern New Mexico University has given me a wonderful opportunity to be a part of these organizations and grow as a leader.

My goal as Vice-President is to be a strong voice for students overall and to give the Senators the opportunity to help better their specific colleges. The senators have the perspectives of their exact college and what could make it the best experience we can give those students. The Student Government Association is a strong voice whenever it comes to campus as a whole. Being able to provide a diverse, healthy, and supportive student representation!

I am honored and very excited to serve you as the student body vice president, facilitating a wonderful and healthy time here at ENMU. I strongly encourage and welcome all students at Eastern to come to me with any questions, comments, and/or concerns. I can be contacted at any time at [email protected].
