When a Student Needs Help

Faculty and staff are often on the front lines for students in distress. Many students view professors and staff members as confidants, role models or friends. This is especially apparent at ENMU, where our small classes and family atmosphere are a big part of our campus culture.

We have a shared responsibility to respond to students with care and compassion for their personal well-being as well as concern for their academic success. You are welcome to call the Office of Counseling and Career Services to consult with one of our staff about how to best help a student.

Our licensed counselors are equipped to help students deal with short-term issues like depression, anxiety, phobias, relationship problems, anger management, communication problems, fear of failure and more.

Referral Form

As faculty and staff, you are often the first person to see when a student is struggling either personally or academically. If you have concerns about a student, please complete this confidential referral form and a member of the counseling staff will reach out to the student. While we cannot let you know the results of our contact, we will let you know the date that contact was attempted.

Absence Alert

Sometimes when students have situations that pull them away from their academic efforts, they will tell a professor or staff member who can fill out our Absence Alert Form. This form provides us with enough information to contact all a students' professors or on-campus employers so they don't have to worry about calling everyone in the midst of a crisis.

Confidentiality

Client confidentiality prohibits us from providing you with information about a student you may refer. It is appropriate for you to follow up directly with the student if you feel comfortable doing so.

You can connect with our staff at the Counseling Corner 24/7 via a platform that you already use and trust: text. Reach out for any type of situation that you would need immediate emotional assistance. If you experience a delay during business hours (Mondays to Fridays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), please be aware that our staff might be in a counseling appointment. They will get back to you as soon as they are available. We are also available via WhatsApp and IMessage. We take your privacy seriously and will take strict measures to keep our conversations confidential!
