Founded in 1940 through funding provided by the Works Project Administration (WPA), the Roosevelt County Historical Museum (RCHM) is located on the campus of ENMU-Portales just off of Hwy 70 (W 2nd St). All displays in the museum have been donated by county residents.
Upon entering, you'll be immediately swept backward in time to the early life and times of the residents of Roosevelt County. The displays include relics of the home including antique furniture and an Edison phonograph as well as the technology of the past as evidenced by a printing press and a medical instrument collection.
Hours of Operation
Beginning June 1, 2021, the museum will be open to the public on Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturdays between noon and 5 p.m.
No appointment is necessary for individuals or for groups of 10 or fewer. If your group has more than 10 people, you must contact us in advance at 575.562.2592 to arrange your visit.
Visitor Capacity
The maximum capacity for the Roosevelt County Historical Museum exhibition space is 30 people.
If we reach the visitor capacity limit, the entrance will be locked until enough people finish their tour(s) and exit the building to allow other visitors to enter. If this happens, we will post a sign on the door that indicates we are at capacity and provides a number you may call to ask about the current operation status.
