Scholarships are awarded by Enrollment Services, the ENMU Foundation and various academic departments to current and incoming students. The Office of Financial Aid administers these funds after they have been awarded.

We encourage you to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which may be submitted as early as Oct. 1 of the current year for the upcoming school year. Review the scholarship information on this page to see what other aid you might qualify for.

Keep in mind any scholarship you receive might affect your eligibility for financial aid. Be sure to communicate with your Transfer Center recruiter and a financial aid advisor to find out what scholarships might be best for you. Scholarships are distributed over two semesters, fall and spring.

Institutional Scholarships

Amount: $200-$700 per academic year

Application deadline: for priority consideration, apply by Aug. 1 for fall and Jan. 3 for spring. Applications may be considered until two weeks prior to the beginning of the semester. In order for us to be able to process your scholarship application, you should apply for admission first, because you won't be eligible to receive an Admissions Scholarship until you are admitted to ENMU.

Eligibility: be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and meet one of the following requirements:

  • 3.5 cumulative college GPA

Continuation: may be awarded up to four consecutive semesters or receipt of degree (whichever comes first) if you complete at least 15 hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Apply for Admissions Scholarships

Amount: in-state: $450 per semester; Out-of-state: $450 per semester, plus a waiver of the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition. Only a limited number of this scholarship are awarded.

Eligibility:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Be a Phi Theta Kappa member with a 3.5 cumulative college GPA, who has earned an associate degree or minimum of 60 hours of college credit.
  • Proof of Phi Theta Kappa membership is required. Please provide a copy of your membership card.

State-Funded Scholarships for In-State Students

Pending finalized rules set to be published July 1, 2022

Amount: to be authorized by the New Mexico State Legislature annually, up to 100% of tuition and required fees at any New Mexico public college or university starting in the Fall, 2022 semester.

Eligibility:

  • Be an established New Mexico resident.
  • Enroll in a minimum of 6 credit hours at an eligible New Mexico public college or university toward certain certificate programs, an associate degree or first bachelor's degree.
  • Not be in excess of maximum time frame, 90 overall attempted credit hours for an associate degree or 160 overall attempted credit hours for a first bachelor's degree.

Continuation: If you satisfactorily complete all enrolled hours each semester with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, you are eligible to continue receiving the scholarship until you reach the maximum time frame or complete your program.

Out-of-State Tuition Waivers

Amount: waives the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition (Colorado Scholar and Texas 135-Mile scholarships awarded separately, see below.)

  • 3.0 cumulative high school GPA and a 23 ACT Composite or 1130 or higher
  • 3.5 cumulative high school GPA and a 20 ACT Composite or 1030 or higher

SAT Total comes from the following sections: Evidence-Based Reading/Writing | Mathematics

Scholarship review is started each year on the first weekday in July for fall and spring. Applications are date stamped when received and reviewed in date order. In order for us to be able to consider your scholarship application, you should apply for admission first, because you won't be reviewed to receive an Admissions Scholarship until you are admitted to ENMU. You must reapply for this tuition waiver every year.

Listed below are the priorities in which the applications will be reviewed:

  • Priority I: Returning ENMU student on the waiver with a cumulative ENMU GPA of 2.5 and successfully completed 12 credit hours the previous semester
  • Priority II: New transfer students from an Arizona college with a minimum 2.5 transfer cumulative GPA
  • Priority III: First-Time Freshman: Have a 2.5 cumulative high school GPA and a 20 ACT Composite / SAT Total of 1030 or higher

Eligibility: be an Arizona resident and a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident meeting one of the above priorities.

Continuation: with yearly application, may be awarded for up to four consecutive semesters or receipt of degree (whichever comes first) if you complete at least 12 hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

Eligibility: be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and live within 135 miles of ENMU-Portales, renewal is automatic and is not based on GPA or number of hours taken.

Application deadline: there is no application required for this waiver, it will be automatically applied to your account if you meet the eligibility requirements.

The Western Undergraduate Exchange program is designed to allow students from selected states to attend ENMU at a reduced out-of-state tuition rate. To qualify for the WUE, you must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and a resident of one of the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Guam and the US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Application deadline: there is no application required for this waiver, it will be automatically applied to your account if you meet the eligibility requirements.

Donor Scholarships

The ENMU Foundation offers a variety of scholarships for students of every level (incoming freshman, current/transfer students, and graduate students). Applications are accepted most years Jan. 1 to Feb. 15 of each year for the following academic year scholarships.

Continuation Criteria

Some scholarships will continue to award you money for a number of semesters as long as you maintain a certain GPA while taking a certain number of courses. Your GPA and course load requirements to maintain the scholarship are referred to as "Continuation Criteria" and are shown for each scholarship or waiver.
