Early Childhood Special Education Program Details

Our graduate degree in special education is designed to be completed 100% online. You will complete readings, assignments, discussions on Canvas, individual projects and presentations, quizzes, and tests throughout the semester. Recorded lectures via Mediasite will connect you with professors and other students on your own time.

  • Although special education licensure may be pursued concurrently, the early childhood special education program does not lead to teacher licensure in special education.

Affordable & Quality Master's in Special Education

Eastern New Mexico University has the second lowest bachelor's and master's-level tuition in the state of New Mexico, and has one of the most affordable graduate tuition rates in the United States. If you are an out-of-state student enrolling in 6 or fewer hours per semester, you'll pay tuition and fees at the low in-state rate. Eligible students may apply for the TEACH grant and Graduate Assistantships are also available through application to the ENMU Graduate School.

Faculty members are specialists in their areas of advising and are current with requirements for admission into the programs they advise so you get the academic advice you need, when you need it.

Academic Help and Resources

We want to make sure you get the support you need. We offer flexible tutoring services, including the ENMU Writing Center which is available to help you improve your writing and help you clearly communicate for written, school-related projects and assignments.

We also have online databases, journal article, and eBooks accessible through the Golden Library. ENMU librarians are available virtually, via phone and email to provide assistance, so you'll always have the help you need to take advantage of library resources, even if you're sitting in front of your computer at home.

If you would like to get more involved, ENMU provides the opportunity to use the skills you'll gain while working on your degree to hold leadership positions in our many organizations. At ENMU, you will be able to explore more than 50 student organizations that range from academic, cultural, multicultural, service, special interest and fraternities/sororities.

With a master's degree in early childhood special education, you can pursue a career in:

  • Early intervention (Part C - Birth to 3)
  • Community care and education programs
  • Early Head Start/Head Start
  • Community Pre-K programs; or with a license – school-based Pre-K programs
  • Inclusive preschools and Grades K-3 (with license in ECE, ELED or SPED)
  • Consulting for Training and Technical Assistance Programs (statewide TTAPs), FOCUS programs, etc.
