PORTALES, NM – June 24, 2021 – Current athletic director from Bethel College, Tony Hoops, will be visiting ENMU-Portales on Wednesday, June 30, as the fourth candidate to be brought on campus for Eastern New Mexico University-Portales' director of athletics search.
The campus and Portales community are invited to a "meet and greet" with Hoops at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 30, at the Courthouse Café, located at 109 S Main St. At 9:30 a.m., Hoops will be available to speak with campus and community members at ENMU-Portales in Greyhound Arena, Room 7.
During Hoops' five-year tenure at Bethel College, he helped increase the total number of student-athletes, increased student retention and helped to raise the overall GPA and graduation rate. Hoops was also named the Kansas Colligate Athletic Conference Athletic Director of the Year for 2020–21.
Prior to his stint as Bethel College's athletic director, he was the school's head men's basketball coach from 2014–18 and an assistant men's golf coach from 2011–17. He also has held several high school basketball coaching positions around the state of Kansas.
Hoops holds a Master of Science in School Leadership and Administration from Baker University and a Bachelor of Science in Health Management from Bethel College.
