He premiered alongside Wonder Woman and Mister Terrific.

Grant is a world-class heavyweight boxer that got involved with the criminal underworld and created his costumed identity to clear his name. He became a long-time member of the Justice Society of America within the D.C. Universe.

He started out as a normal human but at an unspecified time was granted having nine lives. He remains at his peak of physical fitness due to his background and continued training. He trained Batman, Black Canary and Superman in the art of boxing.

Grant was accused of killing his mentor “Socker” Smith, even though it was actually Grant’s managers Flint and Skinner who poisoned him in a boxing glove. The dose was only intended to slow him down but they misjudged the potency.

When Grant got arrested Flint and Skinner thought he might know the truth so they planned to have the young boxer killed before he could talk. Grant escaped and this triggered the creation of Wildcat. He vowed to clear his name and obtain justice for Smith.

Other Wildcats in the DC Universe have been Yolanda Montez, Hector Ramirez and Tom Bronson.

IGN listed Wildcat as the 71st greatest comic book character of all time.
