Early Arrival and Break Housing

On-Campus Housing for Students Arriving Before Residence Halls Open
Sometimes you may need to stay in the residence halls before the official date the halls are open. This is fairly common for athletes, for instance, who have to report to practice well before school begins.

This year, the residence halls are closed from:

  • 5 p.m. on July 22 through 8 a.m. on Aug. 12 for the fall semester
  • 5 p.m. on Dec. 16 through 8 a.m. on Jan. 9 for the spring semester

Any student staying in the residence halls must be registered for the upcoming semester. If you need to stay in the residence hall during the time the halls are closed, the department or team you are affiliated with will provide your information to the Office of Housing and Residence Life so you'll be good to go for your early arrival or residence during a break.

On-Campus Housing During Breaks
During winter break and spring break you may need to remain in your residence hall rooms. Because of staffing issues, assigned rooms may not be located in buildings that will have staff coverage.

If you need to stay in the residence halls during a break, you are invited to sign up for break housing with the Office of Housing and Residence Life, 575.562.2631, and there is a $15 charge for each night during this time. Please note, only students who have contacted housing may remain in residence during the breaks.
