Job Summary: Under supervision to operate a variety of heavy and light equipment and machinery used in the operation, maintenance, construction, and repair of the Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection systems as defined by the division/department. Performs routine and emergency maintenance to assigned equipment and components in the Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection systems as needed or as directed. Assist and provide support to crews performing a variety of assignments. Leads the work on the crew in the absence of the Crewleader.
Qualifications: Must posses a valid Texas Class A-CDL drivers license, or ability to obtain within three months of employment.
High school diploma or GED required.
One year work experience in the operation, construction, maintenance. or repair of water and or wastewater systems in the City of Odessa and completion of equipment operation training, or Eighteen months of work experience in the operation, maintenance, construction, or repair of a Water and or Wastewater system, public or private with six months experience operating one or more specialized equipment described above, or an equivalent combination of work experience, education, and training.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to read, write and understand oral and written instructions. Working knowledge of equipment and materials used in the operation, maintenance, construction, and repair of the Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection systems. Ability to operate one or more of the specialized equipment listed previously during normal and adverse working conditions and traffic conditions, Knowledge of and ability to apply applicable safety procedures related to job assignments including but not limited to Trench Safety Procedures, Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Personal Protective Equipment, Confined Space Procedures, Texas One Call System, safe equipment operation practices, and general work safety practices. Ability to operate excavation equipment and complete excavations in close tolerance to other utilities including water, sewer, gas, electric, phone, television cables, petroleum lines and other utilities and pipelines.
Duties: Operates one or more of the following pieces of specialized equipment used in the Utilities Department as assigned by Utilities Department management, backhoes, excavators, trenchers, loaders, and other types of excavation and backfill equipment.
Operates one or more of the following sewer system cleaning and inspection equipment, sewer vacuum cleaning units, sewer jet cleaning units, sewer rodder units, sewer line television inspection units, and other sewer line cleaning and inspection units.
Operates a variety of other specialized equipment and machinery used in the operation, maintenance, construction, and repair of Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection systems.
Performs a variety of pipe fitting and connection tasks on a various water and wastewater mains, services and components.
Cleans and performs routine and preventative maintenance on equipment, machinery, tools and equipment.
Assists in training of other personnel.
Performs a variety of manual labor and support tasks.
Completes reports on daily work assignments and activities as required.
Performs rotating call duty and rotating shift as assigned.
Responds to customer calls, emergencies, and assignments during and after regular work hours as needed.
Acts in the place of the Crewleader on the temporary basis during absences for the performance of daily work assignments and emergencies.
Works independently in the performance of a variety of daily work assignments.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
