Sidewalk Chalk Competition

An area of campus sidewalk roughly the size of four feet by four feet (actual space may be slightly bigger) will be assigned to each participant. Prior planning and practice of your artwork at this size is encouraged. Be sure to ask permission first and no practice on university sidewalks before the event, please.

On the day of the event a box of Prang chalk for use in the competition will be provided. One box per entry; entries are defined as:

• One ENMU student
• A team of two ENMU students
• A team of one ENMU student and the student's parent
• A team of one ENMU student and the student's sibling
• *One ENMU faculty or staff member
• *A team of two ENMU faculty or staff members

*ENMU faculty and staff are not eligible for placement consideration or awards.

The day of the event, please consider bringing:

• Sunscreen and hat
• Bottled water and snacks
• Kneepads
• Towels and rags for blending
• Spray bottle filled with water
• Additional chalk (optional)

Keep in mind that you will be working on your hands and knees and that chalk is very messy; you should dress appropriately.

There is no theme and you have up to two hours to complete your chalk masterpiece. Each entry will be judged based on overall creativity and craftsmanship. Your work must be original and conceived by you and/or your teammate. Outside assistance by other students, instructors or other individuals at any time during the competition will result in immediate disqualification.

First, second and third place awards will be given out.
