Every spring, hundreds of students from across Eastern New Mexico and West Texas come to participate in the annual Festival Románico in Portales, New Mexico. Students participate in various competitions, including poetry recitation, six-minute sketches, and arts and crafts.
Although it began around 1980 and included other Romance languages like French and Portuguese, it now celebrates the Spanish language and the Hispanic community through artistic and performing arts competitions and community projects that foster connections between participants and ENMU.
Each year, independently and uniquely organised in the area, it has brought together more than 500 students from schools in New Mexico and West Texas. Over time, the Festival Románico has become a major cultural celebration and a success among students in both middle and high school. Festival Románico is independent and the only one of its kind in the region. In this area, the festival has grown into a significant cultural event that high school students will remember for years to come.
¡El Festival Románico es nuestro festival!
