2024-25 Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded by Enrollment Services, the ENMU Foundation and various academic departments to current and incoming students. The Office of Financial Aid administers these funds after they have been awarded.
We encourage you to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which may be submitted as early as Oct. 1 of the current year for the upcoming school year. Review the scholarship information on this page to see what other aid you might qualify for.
Keep in mind any scholarship you receive might affect your eligibility for financial aid. Be sure to communicate with your Transfer Center recruiter and a financial aid advisor to find out what scholarships might be best for you. Scholarships are distributed over two semesters, fall and spring.

Institutional Scholarships
Transfer Academic Scholarship >
Amount: $200-$700 per academic year
Application deadline: for priority consideration, apply by Aug. 1 for fall and Jan. 3 for spring. Applications may be considered until two weeks prior to the beginning of the semester. In order for us to be able to process your scholarship application, you should apply for admission first, because you won't be eligible to receive an Admissions Scholarship until you are admitted to ENMU.
Eligibility: be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and meet one of the following requirements:
- 3.5 cumulative college GPA
Continuation: may be awarded up to four consecutive semesters or receipt of degree (whichever comes first) if you complete at least 15 hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship >
Amount: in-state: $450 per semester; Out-of-state: $450 per semester, plus a waiver of the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition. Only a limited number of this scholarship are awarded.
Eligibility:
- Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Be a Phi Theta Kappa member with a 3.5 cumulative college GPA, who has earned an associate degree or minimum of 60 hours of college credit.
- Proof of Phi Theta Kappa membership is required. Please provide a copy of your membership card.

State-Funded Scholarships for In-State Students
New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship >
Pending finalized rules set to be published July 1, 2022
Amount: to be authorized by the New Mexico State Legislature annually, up to 100% of tuition and required fees at any New Mexico public college or university starting in the Fall, 2022 semester.
Eligibility:
- Be an established New Mexico resident.
- Enroll in a minimum of 6 credit hours at an eligible New Mexico public college or university toward certain certificate programs, an associate degree or first bachelor's degree.
- Not be in excess of maximum time frame, 90 overall attempted credit hours for an associate degree or 160 overall attempted credit hours for a first bachelor's degree.
Continuation: If you satisfactorily complete all enrolled hours each semester with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, you are eligible to continue receiving the scholarship until you reach the maximum time frame or complete your program.

New Mexico Lottery Success Scholarship >
Amount: to be authorized by the New Mexico State Legislature by June 1 of each year.
Initial Qualification Requirements:
- Be an established New Mexico resident.
- Graduate from a public or accredited private New Mexico high school, complete requirements as a home-schooled student registered by the New Mexico Public Education Department, or received a high school equivalency credential recognized by the state of New Mexico while maintaining residency in New Mexico.
- Enroll full-time within 16 months of high school completion at a New Mexico public post-secondary educational institution and maintain consecutive full-time enrollment in fall and spring semesters.
- Enroll full-time in at least 12 hours and obtain a 2.5 semester GPA in the first semester. Complete at least 30 credit hours at an eligible four-year school or (24 credit hours at an eligible two-year school) with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA throughout the academic year, fall and spring, summer is optional.
Continuing Eligibility: Students must maintain consecutive enrollment throughout the academic year (fall and spring, summer is optional), earn 30 credit hours at an eligible four-year or 24 credit hours at an eligible two year New Mexico public post-secondary educational institution and maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA. The scholarship begins with the second semester of consecutive fall and spring enrollment. Students may renew the scholarship each semester for 3.5 academic years at a four-year institution or until the student graduates with their first bachelor's degree, whichever is sooner. Community college students may renew for 1.5 academic years. The scholarship is transferable from one eligible New Mexico public college or university to another with a financial aid transfer transcript request.
Loss of Eligibility and Appeal: Scholarships are renewable, subject to revocation for failure to maintain eligibility requirements. Students who fail to meet one of the eligibility requirements may appeal to their institution's financial aid office. The appeal process includes detailing and documenting the extreme mitigating circumstances which prevented them from meeting the eligibility requirements.

Out-of-State Tuition Waivers

Arizona Tuition Waiver >
Amount: waives the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition (Colorado Scholar and Texas 135-Mile scholarships awarded separately, see below.)
Scholarship review is started each year on the first weekday in July for fall and spring. Applications are date stamped when received and reviewed in date order. In order for us to be able to consider your scholarship application, you should apply for admission first, because you won't be reviewed to receive an Admissions Scholarship until you are admitted to ENMU. You must reapply for this tuition waiver every year.
Listed below are the priorities in which the applications will be reviewed:
- Priority I: Returning ENMU student on the waiver with a cumulative ENMU GPA of 2.5 and successfully completed 12 credit hours the previous semester
- Priority II: New transfer students from an Arizona college with a minimum 2.5 transfer cumulative GPA
- Priority III: First-Time Freshman: Have a 2.5 cumulative high school GPA and a 20 ACT Composite / SAT Total of 1030 or higher
ACT Composite comes from the following sections: English | Reading | Science | Mathematics
SAT Total comes from the following sections: Evidence-Based Reading/Writing | Mathematics
Eligibility: be a Arizona resident and a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident meeting one of the above priorities.
Continuation: with yearly application, may be awarded for up to four consecutive semesters or receipt of degree (whichever comes first) if you complete at least 12 hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

Colorado Scholar Tuition Waiver >
Amount: waives the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition
Eligibility: be a Colorado resident and a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, and have at least a 2.5 cumulative college GPA.

Texas 135-Mile Tuition Waiver >
Amount: waives the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition
Eligibility: be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and live within 135 miles of ENMU-Portales, renewal is automatic and is not based on GPA or number of hours taken.
Application deadline: there is no application required for this waiver, it will be automatically applied to your account if you meet the eligibility requirements.

Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) >
The Western Undergraduate Exchange program is designed to allow students from selected states to attend ENMU at a reduced out-of-state tuition rate. To qualify for the WUE, you must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and a resident of one of the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Guam and the US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
Application deadline: there is no application required for this waiver, it will be automatically applied to your account if you meet the eligibility requirements.

The ENMU Foundation offers a variety of scholarships for students of every level (incoming freshman, current/transfer students, and graduate students). Applications are accepted most years Jan. 1 to Feb. 15 of each year for the following academic year scholarships.

- SAT Total comes from the following sections: Evidence-Based Reading/Writing | Mathematics (not superscored)
For priority consideration, apply for admission by Aug. 1 for fall and Jan. 3 for spring. Applications are considered through the first week the beginning of the semester. You should apply for admission first, your admission file will not be reviewed for the scholarships below until you are admitted to ENMU and all final official transcripts have been received.
Scholarships are distributed during the fall and spring semesters. Only one Out-of-State Tuition Discount can be applied to the student’s account. The Office of Financial Aid administers these funds after they have been awarded. Receipt of scholarships may affect your eligibility for other financial aid.
