Research shows that reading enhances intelligence, helps with focus and concentration, and improves memory and communication skills. It's no wonder that kids who read more do better in school than those who read less. Eastern New Mexico University, known around the state of New Mexico as the "Education University," recognizes the value of reading, and has teamed with several libraries around the state to support the effort to encourage young people to read more books. The ENMU Reads Summer Reading Program provides certificates, bookmarks, a coloring sheet, an activity book and some great grand prizes to young readers in an effort to help support education in New Mexico and West Texas.
In coordination with our College of Education and Technology, the program offers recommendations regarding the books young Greyhounds should consider reading to keep them engaged in reading throughout the summer with recommendations from the Association for Library Service to Children.
