Description
The History Guild is a student organization focusing on history as a topic, defined broadly. While most of the members are History majors, it is not restricted to History majors.
The History Guild regularly works with on-campus museums (Blackwater Draw and Roosevelt) at their events, hosts talks about historical themes, and holds film showings with a focus on historical or cultural topics. These films include an opening history-focused lecture, usually given by a member of the faculty or one of the History guild students. The film showings have also been an opportunity to work together with the Kitchen Brigade (formerly FCCLA).
History Guild will also have other programs- for example, in Fall 2024, History Guild and Ed Rising teamed up to participate in a nonpartisan get-out-the-vote campaign for New Mexico. History Guild also regularly participates in ENMU events, such as the ENMU Day of Action, Homecoming, and Trunk-or-Treat.

Grant-funded research opportunities

Description
ENMU has FRID internal research/ scholarship opportunities funded each year, with priority given to the newest faculty seeking to establish their agenda/plan. Often, these include opportunities for including students in faculty research activities.
Eastern also has a variety of external grants that require review by the Office of Sponsored Projects; typically, these are opportunities published/reviewed/funded by state and federal agencies, and they may also include funded opportunities for students to engage in research.
Sometimes, state agencies (e.g., PED) directly fund programs on/related to ENMU’s campus. Faculty and staff are often very involved with these opportunities, and sometimes these activities include funding for student involvement.

Description
Under the mentorship of faculty in their respective programs, students may leverage research work done for a regular course, a directed study, or independent research (or grant-related work completed in collaboration with a faculty PI) to produce a research presentation or manuscript for submission to an external conference or scholarly journal. Students are advised to work closely with faculty members to ensure that their work is ready for the academic peer review process. Conferences will normally welcome proposals for poster and paper presentations. In some cases, students may seek opportunities to participate in conferences to earn CEUs or engage in professional development opportunities, rather than to present research.
