Gridiron Greyhounds to Host Bacone College in Non-Conference Matchup

Last week, Aaron Johnson's 195 receiving yards were the most by a Greyhound since Cale Sanders posted a 206-yard performance at Midwestern State on September 15, 2001. The senior wide receiver's day was highlighted by an 80-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter.

The Matchup
The Greyhounds are 2-0 against Bacone College, and both contests took place in Muskogee, Okla.

Last season, the Greyhounds took a 21-0 lead on long runs from Kamal Cass and D'Maujeric Tucker, followed by a defensive score from Brad Hardin. Eastern's prolific offense rolled up 507 rushing yards on the way to a team-record 77 points. Cass finished with 11 yards, while seven other Greyhounds had at least 25 rushing yards. Hardin had seven tackles, a forced fumble, two recoveries and 2.5 sacks.

The series began with a rare August contest to open the 2007 season. The game also saw ENMU charge to a 21-0 lead, with recent Hall of Honors inductee Michael Benton scoring the first two touchdowns. The Hounds rushed for 512 yards and pulled away for the 63-20 victory.

Greyhound Head Coach Josh Lynn is in his fifth season at Eastern and has a 24-23 record. In 2013, the Greyhounds finished with a 5-1 mark in Lone Star Conference play to share the league title with Tarleton State. Lawrence Livingston is in his second season at Bacone and has a 4-14 overall record with the Warriors.

Midwestern State is the lone undefeated team in the Lone Star Conference and is ranked fourth in the nation. Texas A&M-Commerce and Tarleton State have matching 4-1 LSC records. The Greyhounds are close behind with a 4-2 league record, followed by West Texas A&M, at 3-2.

After seven games, the Greyhounds rank third in the nation in rushing, with 332.1 yards per game. In the NCAA Division II, Eastern trails only Harding (355.7 ypg) and Sioux Falls (354.6 ypg). Kamal Cass is at the forefront of ENMU's running game and ranks 41st in the nation with 660 yards.

ENMU leads the LSC in total offense and in time of possession (35:59/game- second in the nation). Cass is third in the league with 660 yards rushing, while Wyatt Strand, Tayshaun Gary, and Chivasiay Gallagher are 11th, 12th, and 14th respectively. Aaron Johnson trails only Western New Mexico University's Xavier Ayers in receiving yards in the conference and is fifth in the conference in yards per catch.

Defensively
Eastern's run defense ranks 13th in the NCAA Division II and leads the LSC. The Greyhounds are fourth in the league in total defense
Brad Hardin is 11th in the conference with 50 tackles, which includes 27 solo stops. Desmond Blue is 14th in tackles for a loss, while Cory Harris is seventh in sacks.

Special Teams
The Greyhounds are fifth in the LSC in kickoff coverage and in field goals. Bailey Hale is 20-22 on point-after-touchdown kicks and is six-for-nine on field goal attempts with a pair of 47-yard kicks.

Bacone College is 2-5 with a 2-2 mark in the Central States Football League. The Warriors earned back-to-back wins over Lyon and Texas College, before dropping decisions to Wayland Baptist and Langston.
