Q. What are the main duties of your job?
I am responsible for managing the telecommunications and network services group including maintaining and monitoring the wired and wireless data infrastructure on campus as well as the Shoretel phone system. I am also tasked with managing the helpdesk/client support, lab support and media services (smart classrooms).
Q. What do you enjoy most about your job, and what are the biggest challenges?
I enjoy interacting with the campus community and seeing technology being utilized to bring about success for the students of ENMU. The biggest challenge that I encounter in my position is trying to make sure that we are able to provide the technological needs that students and faculty will need in the future. Technology is constantly changing and moving. Due to this innovation, it can be difficult to precisely identify future needs such as network bandwidth utilization, smart classroom technologies and even the projected minimum hard drive space requirements that will allow sufficient usefulness of a computer over its lifespan here on campus. This is just a small example of some of the challenges facing us in ITS, but these and many more challenging decisions and prognostications are what keeps this position interesting.

Q. What were you doing before you came to ENMU, and what other jobs have you held?
Prior to coming to ENMU, I was running an IT department for a corporation based in Albuquerque where I worked for the previous ten years. IT and management is what I have been doing since I graduated from high school.
Q. What are your degrees and majors, and what activities did you participate in college?
I have a certificate in Biblical Studies from Colorado Christian University and a Bachelors in Religion with a minor in Biblical Languages from ENMU. As I was a full-ime student and working full time, I really did not have much of a chance to participate in anything outside of family, church, work and my studies.
Q. Where were you born, raised, and what was your life like growing up?
I was born in Gardena California but was primarily raised in Albuquerque. My father was an Electrical Engineer who worked in the semiconductor industry and my mother was a Nurse Practitioner. Growing up I was always surrounded by books, stray computer parts and electrical components. Needless to say, I spent a great deal of time reading and tinkering with electronics.
Q. Tell us about your own family?
I have been married to my wife Jamie for four and a half years. We are expecting our first child in April. We have four dogs, two Irish wolfhounds named Gus and Fiona and two Labrador retrievers named Jack and Lucy. We also have two Holstein heifers named Agnus and Izzy and a bunch of chickens.

Q. What are your hobbies?
I am an Amateur Radio operator so I enjoy talking on the radio and building electronic devices for a variety of purposes. One of my more recent hobbies is raising livestock and growing our large garden. I hold a private pilot's license but I haven't had the time to fly for several years. I also enjoy hunting, fishing and camping.
Q. What is your ultimate career goal?
That is a tough question. If there is one thing I have learned over the years, it is that you never know where The Lord is going to lead you. I certainly have educational goals, such as getting an MBA, then a Masters of Divinity and a Doctorate of Ministry. My wife and I plan on starting a church at some point and perhaps teaching religion courses, but this is a parallel course to my professional career. I would have to say that my ultimate career goal is to be where I can help the most people, be challenged and have the biggest impact I can on making the world a better place.
Working here at ENMU seems like a wonderful opportunity to accomplish those goals.

Q. What gives your life meaning? Besides career goals, what else do you hope to accomplish?
Helping other people gives my life meaning. As I mentioned above, I plan on starting a church in the near future. Once I have attained a Master's of Divinity, I also plan on offering my time to teach religion courses.
Q. What is your general impression of Portales, and ENMU?
It is a great place to live, work and to study. I love working at ENMU!
