The Bachelor of Arts in Spanish has a goal to provide you with bilingual abilities, while encouraging a greater understanding of other cultures and languages. As our world grows more connected through economics and trade, Spanish is important not only to professionals working in the Southwest, but for any job where you may come into contact with a Spanish-language speaker. We offer a special sequence of language courses that address the your needs if you are a native or heritage speaker or if you've had previous contact with Spanish at home or elsewhere. Although the time frame for degree completion varies with the individual student, the Spanish major is structured as a four-year degree program. The degree can be completed three ways: entirely on-campus, online (through web-based or lecture-capture based courses) or through a combination of both.
Learning Format For Spanish
The Spanish bachelor’s degree can be completed online. This program requires you to be available during class times for live lectures via Mediasite. Professors are willing to make exceptions during extenuating circumstances, but expect you to block out time to gain benefits from interacting with faculty and peers in real time. You will complete readings, discussion, projects and tests throughout the semester. Discussions are done in real time using Skype. All Spanish courses are technology-enhanced and our basic language courses integrate special software and other media in a laboratory environment.

At ENMU we want to make sure you get the help you need. We offer several tutoring services, including the Online Writing Center (OWL), which is only for distance education students. The OWL is available to help you improve your writing and help you clearly communicate for written, school related projects and assignments. We also have online databases, journal articles and eBooks accessible through the Golden Student Success Center. Since ENMU has a dedicated distance education librarian on staff, you’ll always have the help you need to take advantage of library resources. For questions and concerns about homework assignments, projects and grades please email or call your professor.
We also offer an intensive Summer Immersion Institute on campus, as well as a month-long total immersion program in Sololá, Guatemala, where you can practice Spanish in a native environment while exploring other regions and cultures. We also have active international agreements that allow you to complete semesters abroad and internships at accredited institutions in Latin America and Spain. Spanish tutoring is available every semester; contact our department for more information. If you live locally and are struggling with a foreign language, especially Spanish, the Language Lab, located in the Jack Williams Liberal Arts building, provides resources to supplement your language courses.
