Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor Science in Communication with Emphasis in Journalism

If you enjoy change, now is an exciting time to enter the journalism field. Journalism undergoes periodic shifts – such as the Penny Press Era of the 1830s and the birth of broadcast networks in the 1920s. Currently, another shift is happening as more and more publications embrace digital publishing.

Our emphasis in journalism lets you learn the core skills all mass communicators need, as well as the convergence tools necessary to excel in contemporary media. You will receive hands-on experience producing the weekly newspaper The Chase and the online magazine Houndbytes, both of which serve a readership of more than 5,800 people on campus and the local community.

Courses include: Beginning, Intermediate and Feature Writing; Applied Writing for Media; Media Ethics; Photojournalism.

Service and Mutual Interest Organizations

As a journalism major at ENMU, you have the opportunity to work with The Chase (student newspaper), HoundBytes (online magazine), various CFA-related podcasts and organizations, as well as other on-campus organizations and offices.

Faculty members are specialists in their areas of advising and are current with requirements for admission into the programs they advise.
